Mistakes of Muslims in the Past: Surely, We Would Have Never Done That...

Part 2 (for Part 1 go to  https://protectyourthaghr.wixsite.com/home/brothers-step-up-and-stop-blaming-muslim-women)

This ummah has a habit of looking to the Muslims of the past and wondering how they could have made the mistakes they did. Surely, if we were in a similar situation today, we would not make the same mistakes. However, little do we realise that maybe Allah Ta'ala has already tested us with the tests of those who came before, and that we have already failed them, miserably.

Some of us look at the mistake of Adam and Hawwa (may peace be upon them) and wonder how they could have eaten from the tree when Allah Ta'ala had told them not to. Surely, we would have never done that. Yet, throughout our lives, we follow Shaytan's footsteps and fall into error time and time again, despite knowing how Shaytan works and being given constant reminders about him, an advantage that our parents didn't have.

Some of us look at the Mother of the Believers, Aishah (ra), and wonder how she could have made decisions that ended in confusion and conflict at the time of Ali's khilafah. Surely, we would have never done that. Yet, here we are, in a time where communication is easier and faster, but we are unable to clear up the confusion, readily believing lies propagated by the Western media or by the secular Muslim media, which leads to Muslim blood being shed unlawfully.

Some of us look at Muawiyah (ra) and wonder how his group of believers could have ever opposed Ali (ra) and his group of believers. Surely, we would have never done that. Yet, here we are doing something that Muawaiyah (ra) never did, and that is allying with disbelievers against our Muslim brothers, or being pleased when they are harmed by them. Groups of believers will fight (see Qur'an 49:9), but when one side allies with the disbelievers against the other, whether physically, verbally or even in their hearts, then the doors of reconciliation become harder to keep open.

We learn about the stories of our brave scholars in the past and wonder how some of the Muslims at their time could have deserted them or even have been responsible for their oppression. Surely, we would have never done that. Yet, although Allah Ta'ala has granted this ummah scholars of such noble qualities today, unfortunately, this ummah refuses to let them help lead it to its former glory as it refuses to acknowledge their greatness and, instead, allows them to be tortured and humiliated in the prisons of our oppressive rulers.

Regarding leading this ummah to its former glory, there are no people on Earth more capable than the average, adult male Muslims. Yet, it seems that Muslim men would rather push the responsibility onto Muslim mothers, to Muslim children and to scholars, not realising that they are the ones not stepping up. They are the ones who are engrossed in the increase of material things of this world and neglect the solution that Allah's messenger informed us of.

Our beloved prophet Muhammad (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said,

“When you partake in usury, hold on to the tails of cattle, become satisfied with cultivation and abandon jihad, Allah will send upon you humiliation and He will not remove it until you return back to your religion.”

During the 10 years of our beloved prophet's life in Madinah, he himself participated in 19 battles and, in addition to that, sent out over 55 expeditions that he was not part of, so if someone tells you that "there is no jihad today" can your heart really feel at ease abandoning an action that was such an integral part of our beloved prophet's life?
